Send tracking as a link to the customer
When adding a tracking number in admin it currently just send an email to the customer that the order was shipped yet the customer can't see the tracking or the comments (like "track at UPS.com) on the email, they have to log in to their account. As a result we get too many phone calls asking about the tracking...
A better practice would be the have an option on admin to select the shipping method and than the tracking would be sent as a link. When clicked it will take you to the right place to see the progress of your order (UPS.com/FedEx.com/USPS.com etc...) most common ecommerce solutions have this feature.
Tracking your order is very important for customers and anything more than just click on your tracking number to track your order is not a good service.

Hi everyone. This is now in BigCommerce 5.6 which is today (March 24th 2010) available on all new stores. Everyone running 5.5 will be upgraded automatically as there are no template changes in 5.6 and those on 5.0 will of course see an option in their control panel to schedule an automatic upgrade. The upgrades will be completed/made available over the next 24 hours.

Inappropriate?This would be a key addition to the cart system. Currently, shipment tracking must be handled manually, which is a bit onerous.

Inappropriate?I am considering switching to BigCommerce. To be honest this is a sticking point for me. My current ecommerce platform introduced this feature. The endless phone calls looking for tracking numbers ended after they added this feature.
I am really suprised that this basic feature is not part of BigCommerce. -

Inappropriate?I currently use Easywebstore. This is a great product, with great support however its back-end is limited. It cannot deal with returns, or partial shipments, or phone orders.
If it had more functionality I wouldn't even consider moving.

Inappropriate?I also think this would be a great addition to the notification email... the account once logged into on the site is great, however not having that tracking info including a hyperlink in the notification email is critical to minimizing unecessary touch points.

So great to see this being addressed! It would be the perfect time to also have a way for customers to see their partial shipment information too. For instance, if a customer orders two items, one that ships from A location, the other which ships from B location, they should receive emails with tracking numbers for each shipment. -
Inappropriate?OK just a quick update. This is coming in version 5.6 in just a few short weeks. We've bumped it up instead of waiting for version 6 because so many people asked for it!

Inappropriate?Providing the customer with a tracking link is a great idea. However, it does not work when Free Shipping is selected because the system does not know which shipping service the owner actually used (usually the cheapest option of USPS, Fedex, etc.). This issue extends into the emails as the B.C. script notifies the customer their order has been updated with a tracking link (and then no link is available). Perhaps, a setting could be created to allow the owner to confirm which shipping service was used so the correct url can be determined and included in the email to the customer.
If this is important to you other owners please reply to this post as B.C. appears to prioritize which bugs get fixed first based on customer feedback.
