Agreed! This would even be a work around for another problem I have where the local pickup as instructed by the BC KB article does not give the customer a choice of local pickup, but automatically gives then local pick as teh ONLY option if they are in the same ZIP codes as me.. I could at least use a free shipping coupon for locak customers for pickup, it is a sucky work around, but it would have worked, but I guess I will keep looking..

Free Shipping coupon option is very important to us as well. We had to stand on our heads to give a customer who was picking up their product from us free shipping. We made a discount rule for free shipping for orders over the exact amount of her order. Then once the order was made we deleted the discount rule. There should be a better way to do this! Get to work boys! We need it now!

I have to agree on this matter, I think the coupon system has some really great potential and features like the $5 off of every one of the items could be of use in some special and specific occasions but some of the features that should be there are missing one of which is the free shipping coupon or to take a dollar amount off of the subtotal of the order....

OMG this needs to be implemented asap. I had had to do a work around on 5 separate occasions just to give a customer free shipping. I need to have a code to give them.

I just found the way to offer the discount:

Under the Marketing tab, choose view discount rules. You can assign a rule name to it and choose it to be an order or product based rule. It can be set using the following:

Order Based Rules:
Buy X items get free shipping

Free shipping on orders over X$
When a customer spends more than $ , then they get free shipping
Get an X$ discount on orders of Y$ or more

X$ discount for repeat customers

X% discount for repeat customers

Product Based Rules:
Buy one get one free

Buy one get something else free

Get X% off all items in one or more categories

This replaces the need to make a coupon.

However there needs to be a way for this to show up on every page, so that customers can know it exists. If it already exists, I haven't found it.

I was looking for a way to offer free shipping last night too. Don't want to offer it to everyone though.
I also would REALLy love to be able to offer a coupon code for $5 off or $10 off, etc. the entire order instead of $5 off each product.

My website is almost ready to launch, and now after hours and hours of work, I'm finding out that some of the most important features to me, that they advertised, don't work. Very frustrating!

I think I have made BIG mistake using BC. I am so frustrated during the last three days I hyave been attempting to migrate my payment gateway which emulates Authorize.net and it is very economical and inexpensive, but I have not succeeded and I am really hoping BC will make it happen to me with the work around I submitted to them.

Absolutely need this feature. I need it for friends and family that I see often and I can just hand deliver the ordered product. I don't want to add the Local Pickup feature because this isn't something I would want to offer to the public.

I would love to switch to Big Commerce, but I can't until free shipping code is implemented.

I would love to be able to offer my ebay customers free shipping as an incentive to shop in the store rather than going back to ebay. I cant do this without a free shipping coupon code. I would think this would be one of the first implemented??

Has this been implemented yet? I have 2 days left on a trial, have the design almost 100% complete, was going to start adding products today, then saw this post. The concept of my site is AUTOMATIC FREE SHIPPING over a certain dollar amount and now I see this isnt even possible.... If this isnt available, I will need to move to another platform.

Well, You can do the automatic free shipping over $X in the shipping settings (under settings).

However you can't give a coupon that would make free shipping, which is a big problem, yet don't seem to be a problem of what you need.

You can do automatic free shipping over a certain amount. However it's not Coupon Code based. So anyone who reaches a certain threshold receives Free Shipping. I have it on my site www.platinumgoodies.com - and I have it published in my header. However, if you want to include a 10% coupon -- both the coupon and the Free Shipping come into play. Many people want to provide either option, not both.

You need to go into your Setting->Shipping Settings->Shipping Zones. And make edits to it.

I agree that a Coupon Code for Free Shipping should be added.
& A Coupon Code that can discount the total amount of the sale instead of each item.
I love Big Commerce, they have a great product. If they could add this feature it would be even better.

As we can see this feature is very popular and should be addressed as soon as possible. For those of us that have spent hours trying to create a work around, we must all feel that this should be a relative easy programming task.

We run specific ad campaigns and need to track the results from coupons. In order to accommodate a current ad campaign we had to turn on free shipping store wide. This is making a huge impact on our margins when a customer applies a product discount coupon, (that's a another issue within itself) or purchases "bulk" rate.

It is imperative that pricing, shipping, coupon profiles have more flexibility.

These issues must be addressed immediately!

The thing that gets me, is that this stuff must be pretty simple to fix..
I mean, why do the coupon codes apply to each product - change it from each product to the total basket... I have done some coding and seriously don't understand why this has been like it for a year.

I was working on a flyer and was happy adding the coupon code for free shipping figuring the feature would be available in BC.

We have free shipping on orders over $50, it is set up in the shipping module, but I am in desperate need as well for a flat rate coupon code, tried the $5 coupon, until I realized it was $5 per item, not order! It is really a nightmare to credit out the shipping on when processing exchanges & returns with free shipping under the $50 min.

is this going to be in v6?

Overall I think both the discount rules and coupon codes need a serious revise. They both seem very limited to just a few choices and they need to be more versatile. There should be options for each variable within the creation of a rule; ie: when (subtotal, number of products, total amount) is (equal to, greater than, less than, not equal to) ($x, x,) than discount (subtotal, total) by (%, $, cost of shipping, BOGO)

I have the need to create a rule that if the cart is over a certain amount, then the customer gets a % discount and not a $ discount. I think that % discount would have been more popular than a $ discount.

This is very surprising to learn no free shipping coupons. This was a given in the other shopping cart solutions and as such didn't think to ask sales before signing up with BC. It may have swayed our decision. Having this coupon is "very important" for us and applies to about 10% of our customer base and those using 3rd party shippers. Are there any creative workarounds or mods other than continually refunding this money which is very expensive on larger International orders where we bill 3rd party accounts?

We should scream and holler UNTIL it is included! I don't think it is included. But if enough of us scream and holler it might get their attention.

I am currently evaluating BC. I am surprise that this is not already an option. It is something I already use with my current site.

Why is it taking so long to get a free shipping code? I'm not understanding

I still can't believe there is no real way to offer free shipping. I want to offer all CDs free shipping in the USA and Canada. Is this really that hard to do? With big commerce it’s impossible. I am so frustrated.

It's even easier than that (not sure if this is just in BC6). If you have a lots of products you want to list as free shipping, search for the ones you want to change, select them and choose the bulk edit option. The free shipping field is shown as one of the columns and you can just put a tick in the boxes. I just did this for my lunch boxes and it worked great.
